To avoid Istanbul's heavy traffic, taking the tram is the quickest way to reach the Old City from Istanbul port. Your local tour guide from ‘Turkey Shore Excursions’ will meet you in front of Istanbul Galata Port Terminal Building with a sign and take you on a 200-meter walk to Tophane Tram Station. From there, you'll take the tram to Sultanahmet, which takes approximately 20 minutes.

Your walking tour will start at Hippodrome Square, the former center of Constantinople's sports and political activities. You'll see the Obelisk from Egypt, Serpentine Column from Delphi, and Fountain of Willhelm II.

Next, you'll visit the Blue Mosque, one of Istanbul's biggest mosques with impressive 17th-century architecture and famous blue tiles and six minarets. You'll then walk to Topkapi Palace, the former imperial residence of the Great Ottoman Empire, which is now a spectacular museum with one of the largest collections of Chinese and Japanese porcelains.

After Topkapi Palace, you'll visit Hagia Sophia, one of the finest and largest architectural works of art in the world and a magnificent Byzantine Church.then, continue to the Underground Cistern, the largest ancient underground reservoir under the city.

The last stop on the tour is the Grand Bazaar, an historic bazaar with a rich collection of precious handmade carpets, jewellery, leather, and souvenirs that will tempt even non-shoppers.

Once the tour is complete, you'll walk to Sultanahmet Tram Station and catch the next tram to Tophane Tram Station before walking back around 200 meters to the port, where the services will end.

  • Please note that Topkapi Palace is closed on Tuesdays. In this case, the underground cistern will be substituted instead.
  • The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays and during the Ramadan Holiday (3 days) and Sacrifice Holidays (4 days). On Sundays, the Spice Market will be substituted.
  • The Blue Mosque is closed until 14:30 on Fridays. During this time, your tour guide will provide brief information in the garden of the Blue Mosque.
  • If you wish to visit the Harem Section, which is located in Topkapi Palace, it can be added to the itinerary with an extra entrance fee. Please note that this will extend the tour duration by approximately 30 minutes.
  • Please note that there is a dress code for both St. Sophia and the Blue Mosque. You are required to cover your knees and shoulders to enter places of worship such as churches, monasteries, mosques, synagogues, and selected museums. Shoes are also not to be worn in mosques. Failure to comply with these dress requirements may result in refused entry.
