Highlights : Termessos, Antalya Archaeological Museum
Duration : Approx. 7 hours
Departure : Everyday
Tour Type : Private tour
Upon arrival at Antalya port your private guide and driver will be waiting for you with a personalized sign. You'll then embark on a 45 min drive to Termessos Antic city. This incredible city is situated in a stunning location between two steep mountains, with a plane directly at an elevation of 1050 meters (3444 feet). Termessos has a remarkable claim to fame, as it is the only city that Alexander the Great was unable to conquer. In 334 BC, the warriors of Termessos successfully defended against Alexander and his invading Macedonian army. Similarly, in 70 BC, the Romans were forced to recognize Termessos as an independent ally rather than a part of the empire.
Access to the ruins of Termessos requires a winding climb of 9 kilometers (6 miles) up the forested slopes of the Gulluk Mountains. However, the stunning views are well worth the effort. Once inside the ruins, you will witness the remains of a courageous and fierce city, including crumbling temples, defensive walls, watchtowers, the Bouleterion, a Temple to Artemis, an odeon used for spectator sports, and a Necropolis scattered with ancient tombs. However, the most breathtaking sight is the Hellenistic-style theatre, which seats only about 4,000 and is built into the side of a steep canyon. The theatre provides a panoramic view of the precipitous slopes of Gulluk mountain as they plunge towards the coastal plain. This setting allows you to appreciate the warriors who fought hard to maintain their independence and keep this idyllic yet besieged city their own.
Then we will discover the famous Antalya Archeological museum. The museum houses a mesmerizing array of collections, with the Hall of Emperors being a standout attraction. This impressive wing showcases a wealth of classical art, featuring breathtaking statues of Greek gods and prominent figures such as the Emperors Hadrian and Septimius Severus, along with their mistresses. After all these visits we will we will drive back to Antalya port. End of our services.
